3. Compose Thesis
Rules
J1 Taipei Tech Thesis Preparation and Specifications for Graduate Students (OAA)
You should follow the thesis format designed by the university for both of your thesis proposal and the final thesis. You technically have started composing your thesis when you prepare for your thesis proposal. After the thesis proposal, you should take into account the sugguestions of the thesis proposal committee as you continue writing your thesis.
You should continue to meet with your adviser regularly during this time. Again, check with your adviser to find out what method of giving feedback will be best for both of you. Some advisors will prefer that you send in your updated thesis draft one or two weeks before the meeting time to allow your adviser to read through your thesis. Others prefer to workshop the draft in person. Of course, the best method for giving feedback may change as your thesis gets closer to completion.
As a partial requirement for graduation, you need to present a paper in a conference before your thesis defnese, so you should also be looking for a possible conference to present a paper at this stage. This paper can be your draft thesis, in a status that is satisfied to both you and your adviser.
Bear in mind that it is your thesis, and you should be the one who takes initiative in everything. You should also plan ahead and allow yourself enough time for thesis revisions. Please do not try to rush through your thesis when the time is limited, as it normally causes grudge between you and your adviser and the department.
We recommend that you complete the program within two to three years; the maximum years of study is four.
According to the Taipei Tech General Academic Policy, a student may take two years off in total. However, such delays are not recommended and almost never to your advantage. Make sure you are able to submit your final thesis and finish the program within the maximum years of study, and remember that you are the one responsible for making sure you meet the deadline.
Once both you and your adviser are satisfied with your thesis, you should move on to defending your thesis.
