Highlights

1. Interdisciplinary Learning and Collaborations

  • Interdisciplinary Micro-programs: Our department offers English-based micro-programs in International Leadership, Global Business English Communication, Western Classics and Contemporary Interpretation, and Global Engagement Issues and Trends. Students can also choose from nearly 50 cross-disciplinary programs to expand their knowledge and enhance their workplace competitiveness.
  • Senior Projects: Students are required to engage in practical projects to strengthen their applied skills.
  • Faculty Collaboration: Our faculty actively participates in cross-disciplinary teaching and research, including team-teaching professional English courses, collaborative research, and industry partnerships.

2. Internships

  • Professional Internships: Students apply their theoretical knowledge and English skills through practical training, supervised jointly by department faculty and industry professionals.
  • Diverse Opportunities: During the 2019-2023 academic years, 198 students completed 320-hour internships across 153 organizations, spanning education, public relations, publishing, manufacturing, retail, digital technology, culture, and translation sectors.
  • Educational Internships: We support the Teacher Training Center's educational internships. In addition, our faculty member, Dr. Eric Lin, received the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Educational Internship Instructor Award.

3. International Research Environment

  • Engagement with Renowned Scholars: We invite international lecturers and scholars to create a globally-oriented teaching environment.
  • Global & Exchange Programs: Students participate in international activities including NMUN (model UN), Model APEC(SOM), international innovation competitions, and academic conferences.
  • International Partnerships: We are finalizing a 1+1 master's degree program with Penn State University and bringing in resources through the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET).

4. APEC International Affairs Development and Regional Cooperation

  • APEC Engagement: Our department actively represents Taiwan in APEC meetings, manages projects on behalf of Taiwan, and strengthens multilateral and bilateral exchanges to enhance international educational cooperation networks. Through this project, the department's faculty members and students are also able to engage in international affairs.
  • Partnership Promotion and Talent Cultivation: We assist government agencies with international exchanges and diplomatic affairs while integrating these experiences into our curriculum through workshops and training programs.

5. International Conferences and Research Partnerships

  • Annual Events: Since 2006, we've organized annual international conferences to enhance research quality and broaden academic horizons.
  • Partnership Development: Through collaboration with prestigious organizations such as ETRA, we increase our visibility and research capacity while enhancing students' linguistic and cultural competencies.

6. Responding to UN SDGs and University Social Responsibility

  • Youth Impact Forum: Supporting university SDG initiatives, we've organized the Youth Impact Forum since 2019 to promote youth engagement with SDGs.
  • SDG Integration: Our required course Global Issues and Trends guides students in developing SDG-based projects.
  • Rural Education Support: We maintain long-term involvement in remote teaching and digital learning companion programs, improving educational quality in rural areas. For ten consecutive years, our students have participated in such English teaching initiatives.
