Graduation & Course Policy

Graduation Credit Requirements

The graduation credit requirements of our BA program are regulated and reviewed regularly by the department faculty. The requirements are different for students who enter the program in different years. Students should find their respective course list and policy sheet to understand the full requirements. Listed below is the latest graduation credit requirements (applicable to students entered the program in and after 2023).

Minimum Graduation Credits: 130

  • Department Required Credits 56
  • Elective Credits 28 (students must take one Chinese-English Translation elective course and one Chinese-English Interpretation elective course)
  • Interdisciplinary & other elective courses 28

Applicable to students entering before 2023

  • University Required Credits 33
  • Department Required Credits 54
  • Elective Credits 47 (students must take one Chinese-English Translation elective course and one Chinese-English Interpretation elective course)

English Skill Requirements for Graduation

Applicable to students entering in and after 2023

A student of the English BA program must have fulfilled one of the followings before being qualified for graduation:

  1. Scored at least 850 in the TOEIC exam and B2 in oral and written exam
  2. Passed the high-intermediate or higher level in the GEPT exam
  3. Scored at least 90 in the TOEFL iBT exam
  4. Scored at least 6.5 in the IELTS exam
  5. For English proficiency tests not listed above to be counted as fulfilling graduation requirement, the test...
    1. must be provided by either an authoritative Taiwanese or international institute;
    2. must have a CEFR level comparative chart certified by experts in listening, speaking, reading, and writing;
    3. must be approved by the Department of English.
  6. Completed the one-credit, one-hour International English course (students must have have CEFR B1 level in listening, speaking, reading, and writing before taking this course)

Note: Students may take the TOEIC oral and writing test offered by either Taipei Tech or other exam provider. All other kinds of tests must be taken as a whole, and individual components of the tests will not be recognized as fulfilling the graduation requirements.


Applicable to students entering before 2023

Regulated by the Office of Academic Affairs, a student of the English BA program must have fulfilled one of the followings before being qualified for graduation. There is also a reward system for passing English proficiency tests.

  1. Scored at least 850 in the TOEIC exam
  2. Passed the high-intermediate or higher level in the GEPT exam
  3. Scored at least 90 in the TOEFL iBT exam
  4. Scored at least 6.5 in the IELTS exam
  5. Scored level A in the university English graduation exam
  6. Having B2–C1 proficiency level on the CEFR chart

Student who wish to take the International English Exam course needs to bring the original copy and a photocopy of the transcript any of the aforementioned exams to the Office of Academic Affairs Registration Section to register for the class.

These sheets are given to students when they first enter the program and serve as a reference for students to check their progress into the completion of the program. There is also an online version of these course lists and policy sheets, hosted on the university course system.
