1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am a big enthusiast of experiencing different cultures. My goal in college is to experience as many culture as possible whether through actual travelling, reading the culture’s literature, or learning its language.

2. What should incoming students know about the program?

The department of English offers much more than just sharpening our basic English skills, namely, listening, reading, speaking, and writing. English is not only a communication skill, but a profession. We familiarize ourselves with the historical background of England and the United States through reading literature. We learn professional translating and interpreting methods. We acquire creative approaches for teaching young children English.

3. What courses have you found the most interesting or useful?

The writing classes are some of the most useful courses I have taken. While my grammar skills were certainly sharpened from taking these classes, I found the classes useful because they enhanced my critical thinking skills. After several practices with writing analyses, I learned to look for useful details to support my theory.

4. What kinds of extracurricular activities have you been involved with at Taipei Tech?

I have participated in a program called the National Model United Nations (NMUN). NMUN is a conference held in New York City every year. Students from all over the world dress up as diplomats and discuss world-impacting issues such as global warming. Each year, Taipei Tech selects twelve to sixteen excellent students and trains them for the conference held at the United Nations Headquarters.

5. Have you had any interesting opportunities while you were here?

I participated in another program called Youth Ambassadors, which is held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China. Students from all over Taiwan act as ambassadors for cultural exchange in many different countries and promote Taiwan. While this program is not held by Taipei Tech, Taipei Tech offers excellent support throughout the whole selection process before students become actual Youth Ambassadors.
