Sharin Schroeder

Sharin Schroeder's research interests include nineteenth-century Scottish and English writers, Victorian periodicals, literary fantasy, life writing, and religious studies. She has published essays on Victorian writers such as Margaret Oliphant, George MacDonald, Matthew Arnold, Francis William Newman, and Andrew Lang in Victorian Periodicals Review, Nineteenth-century Prose, and The Journal of Scottish Thought. She has published on J.R.R. Tolkien's nineteenth-century influences in her essays "Genre Problems: Andrew Lang and J.R.R. Tolkien on (Fairy) Stories and (Literary) Belief," "It's Alive!" Tolkien's Monster on the Screen," and "She-who-must-not-be-ignored: Gender and Genre in The Lord of the Rings and the Victorian Boys' Book." Recently, she has begun more work on nineteenth-century fantasy and the city, particularly in the work of George MacDonald and E. Nesbit. She also created and runs The Andrew Lang Site, which consolidates and contextualizes digitized copies of the Scottish polymath's journalism, scholarship, fiction, and edited collections.

At Taipei Tech, Dr. Schroeder teaches on nineteenth-century literature and literary fantasy and frequently offers the British and American literature survey course, fiction courses, and writing and research methods courses. See her teaching website here.
