Dr. Ju-ying Vinia Huang's research explores the intriguing relationships among literature, theory, and visual arts, with the focus on the issues of interdisciplinary correlations, cultural studies and inter-media translation. Her recent research topics include the "light silence" of Vermeer's letter-reading women, the temporal and spatial entanglement in Christopher Nolan's movies, Guillermo del Toro's modern fairy tales, dystopia and ecological catastrophe in science fiction, and the ecological implications in Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. Her article on the "tree-man" in fantasy literature is to appear in the special volume published by ASLE-Taiwan in 2022. Prof. Huang is also dedicated to an integrated approach of literature teaching and ESL language learning, drawing materials from fantasy literature, children's literature, and young adult popular fiction.
