張詠翔教授

I received my M.A. in TESOL from Teachers College, Columbia University and my Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I currently work as Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of English at National Taipei University of Technology. I am an experimental phonetician with a focus on phonetic and sociophonetic variations in speech production and perception, as well as second language speech learning/training. A notable aspect of my research has concentrated on the articulation, acoustics, and perception of Mandarin coronal (alveolar, retroflex, and palatal) consonants.
In my most recent research project (funded by Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council; 2024-2026), in collaboration with Prof. Yu-wen Chen (Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, NTUNHS), we investigate aging-related changes in the perception and production of Mandarin fricatives.
