Our application-based MA program admission is open to all prospective students who have obtained an undergraduate degree in any field or meet the Ministry of Education Standards for Recognition of Equivalent Educational Level As Qualified for Entering University (see Article 4). MA students who are admitted through application can also apply for early enrollment and start the program in the spring semester rather than the normal fall semester. Taipei Tech Department of English admits eight students through applications each year.
Please note that applicants who are admitted through applications are required to take full nine credits in the first semester.
The application-based MA program admission is a two-phase process. Applicants should first register on the Taipei Tech Graduate Program Admission website. After paying the application fee (fee exemption possible — see the Graduate Program Admission by Application Guide Book for details), students need to send in an application packet containing materials required by the department. This concludes phase one of the procedure.
A review committee composed of department faculty members will then review the application packets and select the applicants who will go on to phase two, the interview. The number of interviewees is normally three times more than the number of planned admission. The result of the interview is the final, with a list of accepted applicants and a waiting list.

The Taipei Tech Department of English handles the course waiving of all Department of English students and all Taipei Tech students who would like to waive the General English Curriculum courses. The Department of English decides whether the credits of a course can be waived based on the Taipei Tech Course Waiving Policy and the department's own course waiving practices throughout the years.
In general, if a student has a transfer course that has the same name, content, credits, and hours-per-week as the target course, the target course can be waived. However, the following restrictions apply:
The courses obtained during the first three years of a five-year college are considered equivalent to vocational high school and high school courses. They therefore can't be used to waive any course at the college level. This is a Taipei Tech regulation.
To make sure students have up-to-date knowledge, any course obtained more than ten years ago can't be used to waive any course at Taipei Tech. This is a Taipei Tech regulation.
This applies to all Department of English courses, including our second foreign language courses. This is a Department of English practice.
This rule also applies to General English Curriculum courses. If a student has completed an English course in his/her freshman year at another college, the student can't use that particular course to waive any sophomore-year General English Curriculum course offered by Taipei Tech.
According to Taipei Tech policy, a student can only waive a target course with a transfer course of fewer credit hours if Taipei Tech offers a lower-credit remedial course in the same subject area that would fill in the non-sufficient credits. If Taipei Tech does not offer such a course, the student cannot waive the target course with the transfer course of fewer credits.
Based on Department of English practice, if a student's transfer course doesn't have sufficient hours per week compared to the target course, the student either can't waive the target course or can only be allowed to waive the course with conditions given by the department.
English majors can't waive any course with any proof of English proficiency in any form. This is a Department of English practice.
Non-English majors with sufficienct English proficiency proof can waive some General English Curriculum courses. To find out more, refer to the waiving policy of the General English Curriculum.
Transfer students need to apply in the first semester after entering Taipei Tech, or within the first two weeks in the second semester after entering Taipei Tech. MA program students and international students can apply any time.
